Premium assistance under American Rescue Plan Act

The Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law by President Biden in August 2022, granting a three-year extension of the American Rescue Plan premium subsidies through 2025. All eligible individuals may receive premium assistance through Covered California and will pay no more than 8.5% of their overall household income on health plan premiums when enrolled in an Enhanced Silver Plan. Many more people are eligible for premium assistance – including many with higher incomes – who were not eligible before the American Rescue Plan Act.

Individuals who recently learned about premium assistance can enroll through Covered California without a qualifying life event.

Cost-share reductions

You can get premium assistance with any level of coverage if you qualify. Cost-sharing reductions only come with silver-level plans that are called Enhanced Silver.

Both kinds of help are based on your annual household income and family size. And both are available only when you buy health coverage through Covered California.
