New Premium assistance under American Rescue Plan Act

The American Rescue Plan Act was signed into law by President Biden on March 11, 2021. All eligible individuals may receive premium assistance through Covered California and will pay no more than 8.5% of their overall household income on health plan premiums when enrolled in a Benchmark Silver Plan. This means that many more people are newly eligible for premium assistance including many with higher incomes who were not eligible before.

Individuals who recently learned about premium assistance can enroll through Covered California beginning on April 12, 2021 without a qualifying life event.

Cost-share reductions

You can get premium assistance with any level of coverage if you qualify. Cost-sharing reductions only come with silver-level plans that are called Enhanced Silver.

Both kinds of help are based on your annual household income and family size. And both are available only when you buy health coverage through Covered California.
